Representing colour in archaeology

Abstract

 The ability to document archaeological artefacts is a key factor in the comprehension and reasoned interpretation of ancient remains. It involves providing good graphic representation of their morphological, material and chromatic features. Drawing is a basic tool in any process focusing on the comprehension and analysis required to transpose material data. Since the supports and techniques used in representation have changed over the centuries, we do not need to go way back in time to understand when different supports and techniques began to be exploited. Representation precedes the classification of archaeological science and accompanies it as it evolved, modifying methods, subject-matter and ideas.
