The archive of Fernando Higueras: Sketches and graphic process of the school building competition, 1967

Begoña López Rodriguez, Virginia De Jorge-Huertas

Abstract

The Madrid architect Fernando Higueras (1930 - 2008) and the value of drawing in his archives are the object of this research, aiming to light his work methodology, based on an enriching crea¬tive process between valorization and innovation of the architect’s projects. This research is based on the archives of the Fernando Higueras Foun¬dation and the Historical Service of the Official College of Architects of Madrid. The proposed objectives are to study the architect’s design processes through physical archives, focusing on unpublished drawings produced for the nation¬al competition for school buildings in 1967. A second objective is to confront invariants of his architecture in projects already developed or in simultaneous development with the case study. Finally, a third objective is to analyze the back¬ground of these projects, as well as their mate¬rialization in a work built after the competition, such as the Aljarafe School.
