ON B.I.M.
Abstract
The essay examines the meanings of BIM as a design process far the digital simulation of the construction of buildings in a computable way and in order to ensure interoperability and coherence among its different elements. It outlines the recent history of BIM, its international developments and the changes that it is introducing in ltaly. It debates the main critical issues that come out at the didactic and professional level, from the loss of a uthorship and the crisis of the theoretical model defined by Alberti to the growth of participation levels, up to a first provisional conclusion that points out how the main goal for B.I.M. could be the reduction of the gap between design and contruction: this should hopefully bring architecture closer to its essence of art of making.
